A few weeks ago, I was looking for a relatively quick, cute amigurumi to make. What I found was a pattern for an Ice Cream Narwhal by Olive of StringyDingDing. It wound up taking a bit longer than would have been ideal, but I think it was worth it.
If you look at the pictures on Olive’s website, you can see that I took a few creative liberties when it came to constructing my narwhal. The original version is super cute, but it didn’t quite match my style. I found I was a lot happier with it when I moved the eyes and horn so it looked a bit more animalistic, and when I removed a few of the detail elements to make it a bit more minimalist
(and because I didn’t want to do any embroidery). That’s not to say my version is better in any way (it’s not), it’s just giving it a slightly different vibe.
And, since this is a larger amigurumi, I got to use some of my fancy safety eyes for it, which was very exciting.
Overall, I’m really happy with the way this guy turned out, and I’m excited to make more amigurumi that are a little bit larger and/or more involved in the future.
